This summer we are undertaking a fresh investigation into the now classic subject of fabrication methods for developing pattern/gradient on a double-curved surface. While this project builds directly on methods developed for Robofold instead of looking at panelization, we are focusing developing the inherent properties of the form itself.
We are currently based in Lexington, Kentucky [...]

AltnResearch recently completed a collaboration with Robofold to develop a robotic folding system for Studio Joris Laarman. The system of 4 robots simulates production of Laarman’s Asimov chair by folding it from a flat sheet of metal. The prototype is currently on show at the Friedman Benda Gallery in New York City. – [...]

I will be presenting my paper: “Explorations of Agent-Based Simulations for Architectural Design” at the Symposium on Simulation for Architecture and Urban Design in Orlando Florida. It examines the initial research into using Massive as an agent-based design tool and new typologies of scale “constructing” drawings for simulation.

Overview
The Xiamen Energy Masterplan Model was developed with CHORA as part of their scheme for the Taiwan Strait Incubator project. This portion of the scheme looks to establish Xiamen as the first “Green” or Energy Efficient City in China. To achieve this the city commissioned an overall “Energy Masterplan” from CHORA which addresses this goal [...]

This fall I worked with students at the University of Kentucky on the development of the “Xiamen Energy Masterplan Model”, part of an ongoing collaboration with CHORA. Over the course of a few weeks the students completely remade all 600+ LEDS, connection circuits, and prototyped the entire layout.
Team: Anton Bakerjian, Amanda Bocchinfuso, Spencer Dohrman, Chris [...]

Earlier in the summer I began an ongoing collaboration with Chora as part the exhibit for the Xiamen Energy Masterplan at the International Energy Efficiency in Building Expo in Xiamen, China. My contribution was to develop the interactive elements for the master plan model. The model itself measured approx 3m X 3m and was created [...]
