Field Condition
Posted in dev, featured, fieldCondition, programming on 23 June 2010

This summer we are undertaking a fresh investigation into the now classic subject of fabrication methods for developing pattern/gradient on a double-curved surface.  While this project builds directly on methods developed for Robofold instead of looking at panelization, we are focusing developing the inherent properties of the form itself.
We are currently based in Lexington, Kentucky [...]

This fall I worked with students at the University of Kentucky on the development of the “Xiamen Energy Masterplan Model”, part of an ongoing collaboration with CHORA.  Over the course of a few weeks the students completely remade all 600+ LEDS, connection circuits, and prototyped the entire layout.

Arduino Server – Grasshopper
Posted in dev, featured, programming on 8 May 2009

After many questions on the subject, I finally spent a few hours today to test the viability of creating an IO server in Grasshopper for Arduino.  After doing this type of work in Maya for a few years, Grasshopper seems like a good next step as Rhino is a much more common tool.  So far [...]

stemCloud controllers
Posted in dev, featured, stemCloud on 16 September 2008

These are the finished controllers for the 48 interactive blocks within the stemCloud:  This will be shown @ BIACS 3 in Sevilla, Spain.
In total the controllers handle in INPUT/OUTPUT of 96 LEDS and 192 bend sensors and are constructed from 8 arduinos with custom shields.

Scripting Reference – Launched
Posted in dev, news, programming, resources on 2 July 2008

After a few months planning and design we finally launched the first beta of the Scripting Reference Database @ the Institut of Experimental Architecture in Innsbruck. The goal was to develop a comprehensive database of scripts and references for architecture. The goal is for it to become a hub of information generated by [...]

Simulation
Posted in dev, featured, roboFold on 20 May 2008

This animation shows the first test shape for roboFold.
The robots attach there hands at the specified point and then the surface determines the rotations of the 6 axes on the robots. This simulation also writes the actual code which drives the positions of each of the servos.
